The Elite Teams Again Shined in Week 6
LMS, 10.13.11
Laredo Alexander Bulldogs remains king in district
29-5A. At, this moment the Bulldogs, United and the
Rams are heading into the playoffs. And, the saying
"one game at time does not hold water". I am sure
these top 3 teams are already thinking playoffs. For
example, Coach Joel Lopez and his staff were
already preparing for the 2011 playoffs season
during spring football to this moment. Maybe that is
one of the things that has made them more
successful. Another, in filming their games I have
noticed the rotations of players. Why is that
important. One thing for sure all the players will
have had exposure in playing time as they head into
the playoffs.
Again, this year, the Laredo LBJ Wolves are playing
devils advocate for the fourth place in the district. If
the Wolves win this week that is going to cause a
ripple effect on other teams. If the Wolves lose than
a tidal wave will run through the remaining teams
fighting for the number 4th place. The Wolves will
be facing the Longhorns and Bulldogs within the
next two weeks. These two teams will test the
Wolves' offense and defense with everything they
can throw at them. Will the Wolves be able to put a
show of force. Probably yes. Can they win against
the Longhorns and Bulldogs? In this case, the
Longhorns and Bulldogs know they cannot afford to
make an error or a turnover because the Wolves will
turn into a TD or 3-pointer.
Well, anyway the top three teams last week scored
over 140 yards plus points. Respectfully, there's not
a huge amount of positives to find in a one sided
game, even when you're the side that wins.
However, there is one major positive. And, that is a
lot of players can get the opportunity to play.
Injuries of players usually start coming into effect
towards the end of the regular season before going
into playoffs. Guess what? A lot of those kids might
end up having to play. An injury here, an injury
there, and a lot of those kids may be playing before
the year is over. For example, Bulldogs RB #28
Xavier Skaggs was on the injury list. Here come
Bulldogs #30 Skaggs (sorry first name unknown to us
at this moment) who is #28 Xavier Skaggs brother.
And, if you saw our video of that game against the
Toros - #30 Skaggs had a good showing in running
the ball. And Bulldog #81 WR goes RB John
Bojanski also filling in for an injuried player had a
couple of TDs and positive catches and runs. So
there you go. Therefore, the Bulldogs are showing a
lot of promise as they will be going into the playoffs
soon.
As, we head into Week 7 I noticed last week a
couple of negatives. I saw a lot of missed tackles
which turned into touchdowns. Fumbles and miss
cues also took its toll. And dropping punts. Oh! And
personal fouls really hurt big time. Why do I mention
this? Well "hello" we are in week 7. At this time
teams should already be minimizing those
situations. Also controlling the game is a must. How
many times have we overheard coaches say "Stay
Focus"? Those two words carry a lot of weight.
Because if players cannot stay focus, regardless if
they are losing or winning, the game can get a little
bit out of focus and sloppy.
Well, all teams are better then they were at the
beginning of the season. All teams have made their
opponents work for every inch of turff. Maybe
splitting up of the Laredo teams will be good for
some teams and maybe not. Meantime the head
coaches have been around a long time and they
know where they are and the work they still got left to
do.

HFC Tommy Ramirez, Laredo Nixon Mustangs

Coach Ramirez stated
that the Mustangs came
out with a mission and a
passion for tonights
game. And, also that
they moved players
around to play both
offense and defense. As
he stated it was a page
from Del Rio Rams play
book.

Coach Villasenor Wolves
again refused to back
down. The hunt for the
fourth place is still alive
for the Wolves. However,
they still face within the
next two the Bulldogs
and the Longhorns.

Coach Sanchez again
takes another "W". The
offense garnered another
high scoring game with
49 points. And, the
defense came in to deny
the Toros any
comfortability. Next
week the LBJ Wolves.
