Cannot afford a loss this week - the turning
point Week 6.  LMS,10.06.11

A few things that caught me during Week 5 of the
high-school football season:

Laredo Alexander Bulldogs appear headed to the
playoff again. The 'Dogs may just grab the district
championship for 2011.  They have notched quality
victories and are currently in the drivers seat in
district 29-5A. They have slated to win because of
their strong defense and offense.  And, they appear
to be the real deal.  However, there is that last rivalry
game on the first week of November still remaining.

Currently the heat is on for the Martin Tigers, LBJ
Wolves, CC Winn Mavericks, and the Eagles Pass
Eagles.  In order to stay in the race for the hunt of 4
place in the district they must win this one.
Because each of those teams will start to face the
Elite teams next week.  Therefore, they are in a do
or die situation.

The Panthers will face the Bulldogs this weekend.
The Panthers  offense has been productive at times,
but it seems to have a difficult time holding on to
comfortable scores.  The offense has been
inconsistent, relying more on the pass than the run.
However, if the Panthers can turn that around we
will see a different Panther team that with probably
win the next games.  Their hardest schedule will be
behind them starting week 7.

Tonight the Mavericks and Wolves will meet.  Both
coaches are basically from the same game of
thought -- speed and pounding the football into its
opponents.  This game will be old style football -
nothing but brute force. But how competitive they
be, only time will tell as the quarters progress.
It is a must win for the Mavericks in order to continue
to go forward on a winning spree.  By winning this
game they will have shown many in the media that
they were wrong in counting the Mavericks out early
in the season.

Eagle Pass Eagles will match up with the Martin
Tigers Thursday night.  It will be a game of
celebration.  How much distraction will that be for
the Tigers. Well, we do not know until the results at
the end of the game. It can work for them or against
them. It will be a first for both teams to play on a
NFL quality football field.  Again, two coaches with
almost same frame of mind in the school of football.
Both coaches have been in the Eagle Pass style of
football.  Both coaches have participated in Elite
teams and playoffs. This game is also a must win
game for the Tigers. Because next week they will
begin with a heavy schedule to the end of district
games.

The Mustangs have been struggling up to now.
However, If the Longhorns think that this is going to
be a positive win - think twice.  Because the
Mustangs pride has been sustained in past games.  I
think they are madder than hell and they will come
out fighting harder against this elite team.  No
matter what happens the Longhorns will have to
fight for every inch of real estate. And, as a add
note, both head coaches come from district winning
games with the Mustangs, where they coached
together at one time.

HFC Villasenor said to his Wolves that now they are looking for a 3rd or
4th place for playoffs.  The Wolves did it running and pounding the ball.
LBJ is shooting for
one of the top 4
rankings in 29-5A.

Coach Sanchez again
praises his players, the
Longhorns, for their
strong defense and
offense. The Longhorns
showed they are an elite
classy team in the sense
of the loss they had last
week is far behind. They
rebounded on 52 to 0
win over the Mustangs.

HFC Joel Lopez, Laredo Alexander
Bulldogs
Coach Lopez's Alexander
Bulldogs continue to
show up with their elite
offense and defense.
They average over 30+
points against their
opponents. The 'Dogs
are in the drivers seat for
district 2011 champs
with only one strong
team remaining to beat.
HFC Stephen Hofman, Del Rio
Rams
Coach Hoffman was
happy with the win.
However, he was not
pleased when the
Panthers stop the Rams
twice on 4th down within
10 yards from the goal
line. Two TDs denied
the Rams. He told his
players that they have to
start playing...(see video)
