Week 3 Saturday Game
Eagle Pass CC Winn Mavericks
Laredo Nixon Mustangs
LMS,Posted: 09.14.11
Don't look now but one of the district powerhouse
programs is back on track from some years ago
and appears to be a strong contender for one of
the top four positions for a playoff run. I know it is
too early to say. But what the hell I don't know
anything about football. Don't tell that to HFC
Tommy Ramirez and company that it is not
possible.
The Mavericks will face the Mustangs on
Saturday, Sept 17, 7:30pm, at SAC, in Laredo.
The Mustangs are (1- 0) and the Mavericks are
( 0-1). This year I hardly know zero about the
Mavericks. Therefore, I will not even try to
elaborate about them. However, for many of you
that do not know about the district lines between
the Eagles and Mavericks -- I will elaborate
which has a bearing on the Mavericks football
team. By no means am I am defending Coach
George Ruiz, of the Mavericks. However years
ago when CC Winn was built, of course,
boundary lines had to be put in effect. The lines
were drawn such as to where the Eagle Pass
Eagles east section came right up to CC Winn
High School grounds. Now if you stand on
boundary line dividing the Eagles and Mavericks
and continue to look to the East, North, and
South you will not see a very populated
residential area. Therefore, when we see the
Mavericks at Laredo games we notice lesser
players than in other teams. And, that brings to
mind the Martin Tigers. The Tigers are in a
similar situation. The Tigers student population
is cut off right at the downtown or Rio Grande
area. So, they are also limited in student
population. Oh well, enough of boundaries.
Good Luck to both teams.

Week 3 - Game of the Week on Friday
Laredo Alexander Bulldogs
Eagle Pass - Eagles
LMS, Posted: 09.14.11
Game of the Week
Let's throw out all the statistics and follow me on
this upcoming game.
Top ranked and undefeated in preseason and
district are the Laredo Alexander Bulldogs. The
Bulldogs will be hosted by the Eagle Pass
Eagles, on Friday September 16, in Eagle Pass.
It is known that the Bulldogs will be one of the
top four teams in district along with the Eagles.
And, at this early stage the Bulldogs are favored
to take district. If the Bulldogs win,on Friday,
then business will be as usual for them, even at
this early in the stage. However, if the Eagles
win then it will shine a different light on the
rankings. Why? Because the top position in the
district line up will stay open for the remaining
undefeated teams for going into Week 4. As of
Sept.14, in no particular order, the top
contenders are Alexander, United, Del Rio,
Eagles and a new challenger Nixon).
Going into game the Eagles will be able to
defend against the pass. And, the Bulldogs will
be a thorn on Eagle QB Jose Rodriguez, yet to
be tested in a high profile game such as this one.
The bottom line to either team success will be
on the hands and legs of Running Backs
Alexander Xavier Skaggs and Eagles Daniel
Felix. Therefore, we say this will be the game of
the week.

Week 3 - Friday Game
Laredo United South Panthers
Laredo United Longhorns
LMS, Posted: 09.14.11
At times one might see the Panthers and
Longhorns run similar plays. Why? Because
both now head football coaches Jose Briones, for
the Panthers, and David Sanchez led the
Longhorns to championship and post season
playoff games in the past. Coach Briones at that
time was Coach Daivd Sanchez's offensive
coordinator. Plus, Coach Ramirez, now
defensive coordinator for the Panthers, also
coached the Longhorn defense at those period
of times along with Coach Briones while at
United H.S.
However, now is a different era. And, the quality
of players each team has help make a difference
in each team along with their coaching staff.
The Panthers are coming into this game with a
(0-1) and the Longhorns (1-0). The Longhorns
are a favorite to win. If the Panthers receivers
can contain the football then it can become a
close tight game in which it could go either way.
Both teams are very talented with brilliant minds.
The QBs come into this game with very
impressive records. And the Panthers also are
entering with a RB that could plow through the
defensive line of the Longhorns. This will be a
game where one or two critical turnovers will
bring a "W" to the other team recovering the
turnovers. Leave no doubt behind QBs Alec
Salas, Longhorn and Robert Camarillo, Panthers,
will have their work cut out for them.

Week 3 - Friday Game
Laredo LBJ Wolves
Del Rio Rams
LMS, Posted: 09.14.11
These two teams are in many ways similar in
thought and mind. They both love to run the
ball. The Wolves will be traveling to Del Rio with
a district record of (0-1). The Rams with a record
of (1-0).
The Wolves is a team that everyone has great
expectation coming early into 2011 season. The
Wolves, led by HFC Oscar Villasenor, will have a
hand full against Coach Stephen Hoffman, of the
Rams. Rams are also slated as one of the top
district game contenders. And, at this time I will
stop here. I have not been privy to see the Del
Rio Rams play this year. It seems at times that
the Rams are at "Hanger 15". They are the
district far West team that seems, as they live in
secrecy. However, when they appear in Laredo, I
am sure we will enjoy the spirit and hard playing
they bring to each game they play here in
Laredo.

Week 3 - Friday Game
Laredo Cigarroa Toros
Laredo Martin Tigers
LMS, Posted: 09.14.11
This week, Friday, Sept 16, at Keruger Field.
The Toros and Tigers will meet to get that first
win in district. Both teams are currently at (0-1).
In my opinion (yea who cares) the Tigers have
to win at least 3 district games for Coach David
Charles to have a successful season. And, this
is a must win for them at this early stage of the
season. I feel this game will set the tone for
the rest of the season for the Tigers.
Turnovers will play a big role in this game.
The defenses for both teams should already be
in sync. The Toros are still not that machine
in defense that they were last year (yes I know
this is this year). And, for the Tigers defense it
took a toll on their last game. However, the
coaches always seem to correct those
situations for the following games. Look, it is
hard to defend against the spread when
Alexander and United have perfected it for
many years in this district. I know that is not an
excuse but that is the way it is. Therefore, the
Tigers will have be on their toes against Toros
QB Martinez. He can pass and he has the
option to run. And, with the emergence of
Tiger RB Castillo Toros will have a hard time
stopping the run. This is sure to keep the fans
on the uprise all night long. Other key players
to keep an eye out are: Toro RB #20
Benavidez and Tiger DB #24 Duron. Again
this is a must win for the Tigers.
