UIL and LISD Give Laredo Media Sports
Permission to Use a Helmet Cam corder on
Football Players During Practice. Posted 09.01.11
by LMS
Special Videos coming this Saturday. Martin Tigers
and Cigarroa Toros allowed us to use a helmet
camcorder on some of their players. See what they
see and hear and the actual hits in progress. Oh!!! By
the way Laredo Media Sports obtained special
permission to do a helmet cam from UIL, Austin, Tx.
According to them, as far as they know, we will be the
first to do this in the State of Texas. Who knows this
might be a training tool to be used at football
practices in the future.
We thank L.I.S.D. For this opportunity. U.I.S.D. did
not accept our offer that is why we only did L.I.S.D.
Join us Saturday to see what the players see. Thanks.

The Love of the Game: To the Football Players.
by Scooby Doo, Contributor, 09.01.11
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you that
everyone of you has a special talent. I recognize the
long hours you dedicate in working out to improve
yourself in football and for the team. I know it’s hard
at times when you feel all the tough conditioning you
have done and yet coaches pass you over because
you’re too small or not big enough in their eyes, but
remember the reason you’re in football is for the love
of the game and not the fame.
As long as you know, you are giving 100% when
playing or practicing you have no reason to feel
disappoint in yourself. Every player has a role to play
on the football team and whatever your role may be,
do it to the best of your ability. Enjoy yourself being
part of the team with friends. And, and cherish every
moment you have with them.
Once high school is over there is no turning back. Yet
you will have the memories and long life friendship
you have developed. Even if you don’t play much,
your family and friends will always be proud to say
that is my son. They will always be there to cheer
you on, when you do get your opportunity to play.
High school football is like a four year training camp.
It prepare you for the next level in your life, where
you have matured to become a respectable man. So
don’t give up, because your day will come to prove
yourself in football or whatever you decided to do
after high school. Good Luck on the season.

WEEK 1 has started -- where do the teams go from
here. LMS, 09.01.11
The last week for scrimmages. District 29-5A will be
heading into district games next week. Therefore,
coaches are placing themselves under the scope.
They will analysis every action, play, hit, and
decisions that were made on the gridiron. It will be
very important because the clock has begun to tick.
Every coach zooms for the top position in the
district. However, some will have to lose their
games. And, if they don't take the top 2 positions
there is that extra vision of .500 or better for district
playoffs. In my opinion it is not one game at a time.
Ones' mentality is where should I be 3 weeks from
now, and etc.
Radio stations and newspaper are already setting
rankings. How true that picture is who knows. With
emerging teams like Nixon Mustangs, Cigarroa
Toros, USO Panthers, and LBJ Wolves it throws a
curve into early rankings. It will only be after the
finish of Week 3 that we will have a much clearer
picture to make an intelligent rankings. Yes, we
know which teams are the current top teams. But as
of today that is subject to change. Remember these
emerging teams will have a lot to say as the district
games begin. The Longhorns, Bulldogs, Eagles and
Rams - they know how they stand when they play
each other. But its these emerging teams will give
the coaches an add headache.
AND, that is the way it is !!!

Laredo United vs Smithson Valley Rangers
by Scooby Doo, Contributor. 09.02.11
The Longhorns played their last non-district game of the
season against Smithson Valley Rangers. The Rangers are
ranked 5th in the State (Region 4A).
During the first half of the game either the Longhorns or the
Rangers could have won the game. There was no dominance
during the first half. In the last 8 seconds of the first half the
'Horns were able to do a grand stand to hold the Rangers from
scoring inches from the 'Horns goal. The Rangers went into
their locker room with a touchdown denied to them. At half the
score was Longhorns 7 Rangers 14.
However, the second half belonged to the Rangers. The
Rangers defense was able to stop the passing game. The
Longhorns offense could not stop the Rangers defense in
resulting in the Longhorn's QB Alec Salas being sacked and /
or hurrying his passing game. And, the Longhorns defense was
also in trouble. They were not able to stop the Rangers' rushing
game.
Over all, the Longhorns performed well. For the Longhorns
being in a rebuilding mode, both offensively and defensively,
they played well considering the type of team the Rangers are.
The ending score was 42 to 13 the Rangers prevailing.
The Laredo United Longhorns will now be getting ready for
next Week 2. It will be their first district game in Laredo
against the Laredo Martin Tigers. And, of course, the Laredo
Martin coaches were also there scouting the game - to prepare
themselves on that upcoming game. (See highlights of the
game on the top this page).
